Travel Tips & Tricks

  • Dream it.

Make a bucket list! Divide it into budget categories, or distances, or time commitments. Start prioritizing and choose the next three places you’d like to visit!

  • Save for it.

Tuck away extra money when you can! Consider how you want to spend everything from your change jar coins to tax refunds. Take on the extra side job if you need to for a while. Pro tip: Try budgeting with YNAB!

  • Research it.

By spending time researching, you can learn everything from the best time to go to the most highly rated restaurants to money saving tips. It does take time and energy, though!

  • Enjoy it.

Everyone needs to get away, treat themselves, relax, explore, and view new scenery! So figure out what will make you happiest and plan for that!

  • Lodging

Hotels tend to be cheaper if you are going for one night. Plus there is room service! Renting a house can end up giving you more room, a kitchen, a couch, and more pennies to spend.

  • Food

Try a food tour for a great local experience. Pack protein bars and refill your water bottles to save money! Then you can splurge on something extra tasty!

  • Flights

I like to start with Google Flights to get a good idea of how much flights will cost during different weeks or months. Give yourself plenty of time for layovers in case of a delay!

  • Driving

Play travel games and choose a unique stop along the way! Find a podcast or playlist that fits your destination! And be sure to bring snacks!

  • Kids

These are the memories they’ll hold onto. It doesn’t have to be perfect! Pack the pbj and the coloring books. Check out library books about where you’re going, and have them each choose one thing for the trip!

  • Packing

I’m a reformed overpacker. I’ve learned a lot of tricks to making living out of a suitcase easier! Coming soon… a page for packing tips and tricks and great packing items!
